The Story Of 21 Stabs: 1 Victim, Countless Perpetrators.

  **Viewers discretion is advised.**
The following article contains instances of violence described and emphasized.

She tried her best to avoid him, but to vain. That day, even the bustling street wasn’t standard enough to stop the Satan. 21 stabs were pushed through her. Movements so sudden, left no time to respond. Left no time to help, when after taking a look, people ideally walked by. Left no one to help when that skinny figure could have been easily overpowered by only two or three men/women out of twenty to thirties that crossed by.

Satan was successful because each stab was meticulously prepared over a long period of time, and passively allowed by the spineless individuals moving through that partially-lit lane, which looked like it was filled with a lot of people, but not with men and women of conscience, of vigor; instead, those were people who had burned their souls long ago in the pits of desensitization that our modern civilization offers, people who have been reduced to mere machines and insignificant parts of a big corporate doomsday bomb, waiting to explode while they try to chase a something called “ease of living” and are sacrificing the little remnants of life that are left in them.

Certainly, Satan won only because he was surrounded by mere “shells” of men and women, who deliberately reduced their roles to mere passersby and spectators of this horrific crime. Unquestionably, they are as responsible for this crime as the one who committed it, perhaps, even more.

The first sudden stab and Satan celebrated the utterly evil stroke of dominance he felt on his ego with the force of knife sloshing inside her body. Her gasp, her eyes bulging in disbelief, satisfied his desperation of overpowering and dominating her, and his motive of taking revenge on that poor soul. He has never seen anyone dare defy the powerful around him, and whoever did, met with this rage. Hence, she at least deserved it, for him to be deemed powerful. As the second blow came in, from her open mouth came gurgling and sputtering sounds. But he did not waver as he loved her. Even if he might abuse her, it's fine because those around him have always abused the one they love when they make a mistake. So, he also has a right to do this when she breaks his heart, right?

A society which considers marrying-off young individuals as a flex and silences domestic violence with the fingers of “A couple’s personal matter”, shouldn’t something like this be foreseeable? Because if abuse is readily acceptable, then in that analogy murder is just reduced to something that should be frowned upon and left like that, because that’s exactly what happened.

The third stab and she wanted to cry out for help, to scream her agony and fear to the street, but could get no volume. Little did she know these people were the lots of the same that still send their kids to the mills of rat races, no matter the suicides in that city. Even the fourth blow didn’t waver them because just like they advised their child, they expected her to fight back alone. After all it's the weak and dumb who get bullied and it is their sole responsibility to avoid such situations. Because obviously, why should the abusive, the exploiting ever change their ways?

As the fifth and sixth stab spilled out her organs, a man walking by stopped and stared. He was fascinated at how real his current watchlist show replicated a stabbing scene. He, just like the others, loved the gore and darkness in the most popular show “Rampur”. The stabs continued with the count to seven and eight, as he started walking in the opposite direction pulling his friend with him to discuss how Rampur is different from other shows. After all, it is one of the first Indian shows to actually show gruesome killing instead of leaving it to your imagination. This is the forte that made it so popular. No wonder, he did not feel surprised seeing Satan stab her.

There’s an old saying, “We Become what we put our mind to”, and certainly, some of us are becoming those wicked incarnations of evil that we see on a day-to-day basis on our mobile screens, on our laptops or our Television, worshippers of mayhem, and most us our becoming mere spectators of this chaotic scenario, because that’s what most of us are good at, sitting back in our couches and first watching someone getting murdered on our electronic screens, then seeing something similar when we go out to buy groceries.

The woman crossing them heard him sympathize with the psychotics and villains. Because, hey! Everybody has a devil origin story and that is so much cooler. It makes him strive for more and more twisted stories. Satan’s hand moved in and out for the ninth time as the woman neared the blood, but strange calmness dawned on her face. Of course, it wouldn’t be surprising for her. She just heard that man. Media is just the mirror of society. If the TV can show it, it must have gotten pretty common and regular around her. Emotionally numb, she gives a second look as the eleventh stab leaves no strength in the girl’s body which falls straight down on the dusty ground and then walks away with a sigh of acceptance.

Satan smiled and looked down on the fallen body. He finally felt victorious because he gave her the best taste of medicine just how the anti-hero does it. He has watched a lot of shows. He has obviously become smart enough to know how to get away with it. It's no big deal. Yet his desperation wasn’t satiated. He went on with the twelfth stab. He knows a few people with connections. In a country where people don't mind criminal charges on 24x7 media covered politicians, those connections would surely manage to bury this too.

Afterall, the public of this country takes accidents and tragedies just as a 3-inch-long headline on our newspapers when we sip our coffee, and whenever we read something which includes the words, “Murder,”, “Gruesome Killing”, we take our chance to take a jibe at the “current condition of our judicial system”, and then take another sip and move on with our days.

Aren’t we responsible for this sewage that we have allowed to enter our streets? Why have we become so blind and deaf that we can’t hear a 16-year-old crying for help inches away from us?

The slashing continued now with a loud voice filled with anger, but people continued to their goal. Because, why pay attention to such a common thing over your daily work. They are not worth getting late to it !  News Channels nowadays are bombarded all the time with news of corruption, rape, kidnapping, suicides etc. The scene they are witnessing isn’t even close to the terrorist killing news they saw yesterday. They feel thankful as something that brutal is not happening in India right now.

Thirteen …. fourteen…fifteen…. sixteen… A man passing by remarked how similar this case looks to previous teenage boyfriend girlfriend cases. The victims nowadays really need to control and assess the situation before getting into it. He is sure this person won't get jailed just like the others. What is the benefit of helping now? Corruption is so common nowadays. On the top of it, police harass and misbehaves with the witnesses and victims. It is always an awful experience, and he doesn’t want to be a part of it.

The count neared eighteen while a woman quickly ran with her child. She cannot let her child see this, what if he gets traumatized! Distracting the child, she gave him the phone to play encounters and shooting games. Mind you, that kid was very talented, with id LUCIFER and a gold badge in one of the toughest grueling shooting games. It was important for her to walk away for the sake of her child, so that he doesn’t get exposed to such brutality at a young age. How ironic, right?

Nineteen…twenty … the CCTV footage continues to capture, now a dead girl, a raging murderer and a silent road. No one helped, yet everyone fled. She might be dead already! What could they have done? It was better to get out of there before he comes after the witnesses too.

Twenty one….With the final thrust, emotion and empathy disappeared. The empty roads, the murderer and the dead all were void of it.

THAT DAY....

The CCTV captured and the world witnessed. To stab someone 21 times and get away with it, live in a society where there are diminished feelings of moral outrage or concern and distress no longer evokes empathy and compassion.

A society that is distorted due to exposure to fictionalized or sensationalized portrayals, about the actual consequences and severity of events and overlooks the suffering and trauma experienced by victims due to reduced empathy.

A society where the media populates with sensational aspects of crimes and accidents to capture audience attention, hence demanding for more extreme or shocking stories.

A society where stories with no empathy are written, just in the desire to be different and be seen.

A society which is devoid of emotions, which sucks on mayhem as easily as a cough-syrup candy, where associations with killings is seen as a commercial technique to make profits and get fat pockets, where spilling champagne is slowly being replaced with spilling blood.

Is that really a society where our lives are easy? I don't know about “ease of living”, but “ease of dying” is something we are working very hard upon.

We can’t be sure if this is what Kaliyuga meant, but if this is it, then we are certainly doing our part in building it !!!

Life Bled, Death Whispered, God Watched — Point-Blank

Today was rather cold. It's not uncommon for January mornings to be bone-chilling and windy, but today, I could feel the wind pass through my sweater, hit me point-blank, and extinguish the remnants of heat that my skin and bones radiated. Hitting at point-blank, being hit at point-blank—both are mutually exclusive events, but there's a contradiction; both are cohesive too. When a bullet leaves a gun and pierces the flesh of a living entity, it not only splatters the blood of its victim but also ravages the innocence of the perpetrator. When a lion tears the flesh of a dying deer, it not only eats parts of its prey but preys on parts of itself, too. When I am long lost in this smoke, when this nicotine roll burns in my hand, it's not the only thing burning. Death always occurs in pairs, but neither entity ends the same way as the other, and it's rarely instantaneous. It's more of a slow, gruesome, tragic, yet cinematic event. Death is always violent. Sometimes, it a...

Dying with Borderline

The face I see in the mirror of the woman looking at me feels foreign. I look at her while I dissociate. Are we the same? Do I live inside of her, or does she control me? Every waking moment, a thought creeps up: Is she sane? Am I ruining her life? What if I merge with her? Is that even possible? We look the same, yet we have no sense of familiarity. I fail to recognise her on most days. The picture she took a week ago seems so different; is that her real smile? Does her nose crinkle up? The ghost of me walks through the hallways of the college, smiling at people, sometimes strangers.  I have lost all control over her. We are two different beings now. The third one who recognises her shows up some days, but we don't let her stay. She dared to call me a monster while all I did was protect her. She knows she doesn't deserve love. We know it's never going to come our way. Her trying to look pretty only gets her looked at, stared at, and objectified. But we know that's the ...

WILL YOU BE THERE ?

Sometimes we just crave for someone's presence When a thousand thoughts cross the mind, The time passes just to rewind, Will you be there ? When the night is dark And the day is darker, When the words are sharp But the thoughts are sharper, Will you be there ? When in the best of situations Nothing seems right, When the days are scarier than the night, Being my twilight, Will you be there ? When in cloudy skies  I can't see the moon, I'll have my own  When you will be here, Will the time come soon ? And when the stars align The moments are rare, When we both have time Will you be there ?                                       ~ Akshita

approximation errors of life

I just woke up from a fever dream and it dawned on me that the dream lasted too long and hasn’t been that long since I arrived. Does time move differently in dreams, with different experiences, does it relapse, can it not be stuck in a loop of my favorite childhood memory? I wake up with these questions, and I don’t quite know when is the right time to ask questions and when is the right time to answer them. The timing is important you see, when you choose to change the curve and when you accept the flow, it makes all the difference. Also, pardon my casual language, I just woke up from a fever dream. I think about existentialism and how the originality of human experiences causes self-alienation and how lonely the suffering can be ( yet I never wished any suffering on you ). I’m not a philosopher, educator, or a liberal arts student wandering and wondering about the technicalities of life ( i don’t know who the addressee is ), however, I still believe the originality of human e...

A bliss and surge in D

I happened to be alive. I happened to be aware and hoped to be conscious and in control of myself when I decided to visit D2. What is D2? Where is D2? It’s nowhere. Nowhere can be anywhere; anywhere with no name attached to it, anywhere that’s not anticipating to be noticed, anywhere which is desperate for your attention, anywhere may be beyond within or within beyond, or it may just be no where. What I did was – give a stage to my imagination and let it create a figment. Then I included it in my thoughts, provided it my flesh and soul. It started to get a structure as it found shelter against reality within me. I call it D. But my imagination, showcasing its dominance and control of my thought and eventually my reality made me believe, and I still do believe that D is not complete yet. It is enough the way it is. It is content being a part of me. Still it’s awaiting to embrace something that’s not me and yet it is nowhere. I am really sanguine about finding that. I would like D to fee...

Flesh

It’s a spring day today. It’s summer in the sun and winter in the shade. My body does not know which season to belong to, so it lingers in the in-between, splitting itself apart. Half burning, half frozen. Half alive, half rotting. You understand this, don’t you? That feeling of being suspended between two selves, two states of being, neither of them quite yours. The warmth touches you, but it does not sink in. The cold nips at your skin, but you do not shiver. You are not here, not really. You are only the shadow you cast. Just like you, The enormity of my desires disgusts me. I want to be called beautiful. I want to be told I am loved—not once, not twice, but over and over again, until the words sink through my flesh, until they take root in my bones, until I become something soft, something sacred, something worth keeping. But I am made of spoiled meat, swollen with things that should not be here. I hold too much filth inside me—blackened regrets, sickness curdling beneath my ribs, ...

The Silent Takeover

The air tonight is thick, darkness stretching out like a lie too polished, too staged. The city below glows in dim yellow light, but it is a deceptive kind of glow, shuddering like a breath too weak to hold on to. Somewhere, laughter spills from a distant window, but it is hollow, floating into the night like a shadow of what once lived. They say the night is beautiful. That it is a whispered promise, a fleeting touch, a sky too vast to hold. But beauty is often just a mask stretched thin over something ugly. The moon shines down, with a smile that does not reach my hollow heart, basking in radiance that was never truly its own. The stars blink like knowing eyes, but they are nothing but remnants of dead things, whispering from too far for us to listen. But the night does not love you. It does not listen to your secrets; it swallows them whole. It watches, as footsteps echo in deserted alleys, as shadows stretch under flickering streetlights. Somewhere, a deal is sealed with a quiet ha...
